I was at school with Spencer, known as 'Spanner', and in the 2nd Swanwick scouts with him, his brother, Hedley, and his father, who was an Assistant Scout Master.  After we left school, I met him intermittently, the last time in June 2018 when we attended the funeral of a mutual friend from school and scout days.  I've only just heard of his death, fifteen months after it happened..
